History in brief
Later in 1786 , with the consent of king Rama I of Bangkok, Phraya phakdi phuthon Songkram, a deputy Muang Khukhan established Muang Sisaket at Ban Nonsamkha Sa Kamphaeng Yai. The newly- established city ruled by Phraya Ratanawongsa ( the former Phraya Phakdi Phuthon Songkram) was under the supervision of Muang Khukhan.
Sisaket as evidenced by the Khmer-style archaelogical remains, dates at far back as the ancient Khmer empire. According to Thai
history, in 1717 Thai locals called themselves Suai, Kuai or Kuimigrated to the right bank of the Mekhong and settled down their communities in six separate places. Of the six groups, two led by chiangkhan and Takaja settled in Ban Khok Lamduan. Later in the reign of Somdet Phra Borommaraja III of Ayudhya, Ban Khok Lamduan was politically upgraded as Muang Khukhan ruled by phra Krai Phakdi Sri Nakhon Lamduan (Takaja). After the death of the first ruler in 1778, King Taksin the Greast of Thonburi named luang Prub (Chaingkhan) , the second leadder of Muang KhuKhan. Thank to the lack of water, Muang Khukhan was relocated in Ban trae, Tumbon Huai Nua (in the present Amphur Khukhan).
In 1904 during the reign of King Rama V of Bangkok, Muang KhuKhan was relocated Muang Sisaket ( the present Ban Muang Hao , Tambon Muang Nua), while the old city of Khukhan becaome the district of Huai Nua ( the present Amphur Khukhan) and Muang Sisaket become one of Muang Khukhan’s district.
